The John Muir Medical Center’s Walnut Creek campus is an acute-care 324 bed facility that in 2007 began construction for a Central Utility Plant expansion with a plan to increase energy efficiency and reduce grid-purchased power. A feasibility study was conducted to predict the facilities’ power and hot water usage, then selected the technology that generates reliable output to best fit the defined profile.

3 Flex Turbine MT250 configuration for a total of 750kW/hr won the bid. To help fix cost and maximize uptime, hospital agreed to a Total Care Service Agreement with FlexEnergy Inc for its low maintenance gas turbine system.

Results: Boiler Savings: $ 200.000/year

Annual Energy Savings: $ 350.000/year
